Cake mix is a type of preformulated baking mix typically sold in grocery stores.[1]

Cake mix generally consists of the "dry" ingredients typically called for in a cake, such as flour, leavening, sugar, salt, etc.

To use cake mix, the cook adds the required liquid ingredients such as eggs, oil, and milk/water. Many recipes will call for cake mix as a component—however, due to the variation in pre-packaged commercial cake mixes, the cook may get different results depending on which brand is used.
